How to Get Stock News Alerts

Stock news alerts are a great way to level up your trading game. They can help narrow your trading strategy, filter out the noise, and help part-time and on-the-go traders. This blog will breakdown why you should enable alerts, the types of alerts, and the alerts available in Benzinga Pro.

Why Get Stock News Alerts

There are many reasons to enable stock news alerts. First, they alert you to the news you need to know, based on the filters you select. If you’re on the go or work a full-time job outside of trading, stock news alerts will alert you to the news if you can’t keep your eyes on your screen all day long.

Moreover, stock news alerts can help keep your desktop organized. For example, let’s say you don’t have multiple screens available or you have multiple tabs and workspaces open. Stock news alerts hide in the background of your desktop which helps you filter out the noise in order to concentrate/focus on one thing at a time.

Or, if you’re someone who likes to limit their filters, stock news alerts can help you get alerted to the news you care about most, while still allowing you to see everything coming through your Newsfeed.

Types of Stock News Alerts

Audio Alerts

Audio alerts are just that, audible alerts. Whether they come in the form of a sound, synthesized voice, or even an audio squawk, they provide an audible alert per the filters you selected. This is one of the faster types of alerts.

Email Alerts

Email alerts are as the name suggests, alerts sent to your inbox. Depending on the alert system, these can be a slower form of an alert, as it has to go through an email processor. Furthermore, if you don’t have push or desktop notifications setup, you might not see the email alert right away. However, if you don’t need to know the news right away, or just want to see a summary of news at the end of the day, email alerts can be a beneficial alert to set up.

Desktop Alerts

Desktop alerts send a visual notification to the top or bottom of your screen, depending on if you are using Mac or PC. These alerts can be faster than email alerts, but if you step away from your computer, you may miss it. A benefit of this type of alert is that you can usually click on the notification to get more information, news and data on the stock/news item.

Squawk

Squawk isn’t your usual stock news alert system. It’s an audio broadcast of key market-moving news. Benzinga Pro’s audio Squawk broadcasts from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. eastern time. To set it up, hover over the Squawk icon on the left side of the screen. From there, all you have to do is it the play button. It’s important to note, that there will be silent periods, as this does not go off every minute—it only broadcasts key news.
